21 May, 2026 The National Committee for Geospatial Information Governance Holds Its First Meeting
His Excellency Eng. Bassem bin Yaqoub Al Hamar, President of the Survey and Land Registration Bureau, chaired the first meeting of the National Committee for Geospatial Information Governance in its new term, which was held remotely with the participation of 11 members representing relevant government entities.
His Excellency emphasized the importance of strengthening geospatial data governance and unifying national efforts to develop this vital sector in support of planning, decision-making, and service improvement, stressing the continuation of joint work to further develop the government ecosystem.
He also reviewed the committee’s mandates, which include proposing national policies and strategies, establishing technical standards to ensure data security and exchange, regulating spatial information governance, enhancing coordination among projects and optimizing expenditure, as well as building national capacities and leveraging data to support institutional performance.
He further stressed the importance of building an integrated national system that ensures effective data exchange and transitioning to the practical implementation of projects and initiatives according to clear performance indicators, through activating sub-committees and enhancing coordination among relevant entities.
