Survey and Land Registration Bureau Participates in the Steering Committee Meeting of the International Centre for Electronic Navigational Charts in Brazil
Mr. Rashid Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director of the Hydrographic Survey Directorate at the Survey and Land Registration Bureau (SLRB), participated in the Steering Committee Meeting of the International Centre for Electronic Navigational Charts (IC-ENC), held in Rio de Janeiro, Federative Republic of Brazil, with the participation of representatives from 55 countries around the world.
The meeting aims to discuss a number of strategic topics and key initiatives, most notably the implementation plans and timeline for the global transition to the standardized hydrographic data model (S-100), as well as the second phase of S-100-based services, which represents the next generation of digital navigational products and services. This transition is expected to enhance the efficiency and safety of maritime navigation while meeting future operational requirements. The meeting also covers the adoption of new pricing policies for Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs), in addition to training programs and technical capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of navigational services at the international level.
Furthermore, participants are discussing the future of Electronic Navigational Chart distribution mechanisms and the development of operational and pricing models for IC-ENC services to keep pace with technological advancements and the evolving needs of users worldwide. The agenda also includes a review of the S-124 service for the exchange of digital navigational warnings and information, as well as strengthening specialized training and qualification programs in Electronic Navigational Chart validation, contributing to the development of national expertise and promoting the exchange of knowledge in accordance with international best practices.
