Pursuant to the directives of HE Shaikh Salman Bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Head of SLRB , Bahrain Tidal Network (BTN) has  been launched on the Internet by the Hydrographic Survey Office. The project comprises two phases; Phase 1 of BTN includes purchasing and installing tidal network equipments in three key locations: Mina Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Port, Mina Salman Port and Amwaj Islands. The second phase will include purchasing and installing tidal network equipments to cover marine territorial waters all over the kingdom. High and low tides measuring devices have been connected to the internet through remote direct wireless transmission using GPRS technology for mobile sets of equipment and Information transmission and storage units known as Loggers DATA Echo Net.

The project is considered as a pioneer project carried out by the Survey and Land Registration Bureau represented by the Hydrographic Survey Office. Accordingly, Bahrain Tidal Network is considered to be the first of its type in GCC countries. BTN monitors the tides, movement of marine currents and charts their directions, speed and scale on the Kingdom’s territorial waters as well as the possibility of recording digital information to be used in tidal annual schedules and updating Atlas forecasts of maritime currents within the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In addition, BTN will provide the marine data necessary for major construction projects which is deemed a specific significant move in providing governmental entities and businesses with the tidal data and providing ports, harbors, ministries and governmental bodies working in this field as well as private companies an easy access to marine information via the internet. This, in turn, will provide all subscribers with around-the- clock information about tidal levels, waters currents and maritime temperatures around the territorial waters of Bahrain in forms of digital records or charts in line with geographical, urban and continuous developments all over the Kingdom coastal areas.
