12 April, 2016 President of Survey and Land Registration Bureau and the Minister of Works Inspect Construction of New Bureau's Building Project – Overall Completion 92% and Structural Construction Works 100%
MANAMA - The Ministry of Works – 7th March 2013:
The President of Survey and Land Registration Bureau (SLRB) HisExcellency Shaikh Salman bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and the Minister of Works HisExcellency Engineer Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf inspected the new SLRB buildingin Seef District and discussed the progress of work to ensure the smoothexecution of project.
They were accompanied by the General Director of Human Resources ShaikhMohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Construction andMaintenance Projects Engineer Mona Al-Mutawa, Director of Human and FinancialResources Mr. Jamal Amin and a number of ministry engineers.
During the visit, the officials viewed the stages of completion andprogress of work on the project against the set work schedule.
Overall, the project is 92% complete, as the construction of thestructure is 100% complete, glass facades 98%, internal finishing 89% andinstallation of electrical and mechanical equipment 94% complete as well as thecompletion of external works. Furthermore, all electrical connections for theproject's feeder substation were completed and operational testing wassuccessful. All electrical, mechanical and electronic equipment and systems arecurrently being tested in preparation for live operation after completion ofall tests.
In preparation for the handover of the project, the ministry iscoordinating with the concerned government departments to take the necessarymeasures for the handover and issuance of the necessary related documents andconnecting all services to the building.
Recommendations for improving the flow of traffic, the design of parkingand determining the most appropriate entrances and exits to and from staff andvisitor car parks were also discussed with a view to avoiding traffic jams orbottlenecks, especially in view of the location of the building adjacent to theLabour Market Regulatory Authority on the eastern side and the Merchants Housebuilding on the west. These institutions are service providers by nature andattract large numbers of visitors and as such the proper management of trafficis quite important. Both of Shaikh Salman and His Excellency the Minister ofPublic Works expressed their satisfaction with what has been achieved in thisregard.
During the visit, the tender for external works for the project whichwill be supervised by the Construction Projects Directorate at the Ministry ofWorks was also discussed. These worksinclude the outer boundary wall, car parks and guard rooms as well as theinstallation of sunshades for the car park. Invitation for bids was issued on 6thMarch 2013. Coordination between theseworks and other ongoing works was discussed to make sure that works areimplemented in the best possible manner.
For his part, the project's contractor emphasized their readiness toexert all efforts in order to complete this project on schedule, and for thispurpose the contractor allocated 638 workers to work on the project to ensure speedycompletion of the project.
The 12-storey building of SLRB is being built on an area of 24400 squaremeters at a total cost of BD 13,601,500. The building will comprise alldepartments of SLRB to provide comprehensive and integrated services, inaddition to 32 VIP car parking lots and another car park for about 280 cars.
The President of SLRB praised the efforts of His Excellency the Ministerof Works and ministry officials and workers to ensure the successful completionof the project, stressing the importance of coordination between the Ministryand the Survey and Land Registration Bureau in this regard. It was agreed on the need to ease out allobstacles and execute all works as per specifications in order to complete theproject at the highest standards in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
During the field inspection tour, the two sides stressed the importanceof periodical field inspection visits as agreed in addition to the daily andweekly meetings between Ministry of Work engineers and representative of theSurvey and Land Registration Bureau with representatives of the contractor andarchitects from the Consultancy Company in order to ensure prompt solutions andexpedite the progress of work on the project.
