The operation was carried out in cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the US Navy to determine marine shipping lanes , sea depths and the changes that took place on the nature of the surface of the seabed.
During the visit, a presentation was made on the findings of the work group which contained very accurate detailed data on the surveyed sites.
SLRB President said that this project and the data it made available will contribute to making the shipping lanes safer to all seafarers, as well as providing up-to-date information for the implementation of the strategic master plan. He noted that about 80% of Bahrain's exports and imports come by sea and that the sea is a major food source for Bahrain and a source of income for many Bahraini families.
SLRB President said that this cooperation contributed to achieving savings in expenditures and budgets allocated by the government for such strategic projects, adding that the saving was estimated to be approximately US$ 6 million. He added that this project comes in implementation of government policies designed to achieve Bahrain Vision 2030, enhance the partnerships between government agencies to avoid duplication or overlapping of efforts and ensure continuing coordination to comply with the principles of good governance and sustainability. Many government agencies have taken part in this important project, including Bahrain Defence Force, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Transportation.
His Excellency thanked the US government, represented by the US Navy and the team that worked on this project for their cooperation, the data that they compiled, the results achieved and for the exchange of expertise and experiences in this important field.
For their part, representatives of government agencies participating in this project expressed their satisfaction with this high level of cooperation, adding that this project was an excellent example of cooperation and partnership between the different government agencies. Such cooperation, no doubt, contributes to reducing government expenditures and serves the best interests of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
