19 April, 2012 Survey and Land Registration Bureau Participates in “Protect Your Heart” Campaign
In cooperation with the Public Health Directorate at the Ministry of Health, the Survey and Land Registration Bureau ((SLRB) organized a "Protect Your Heart" campaign on Thursday 17 March 2016, to increase health awareness amongst the employees of SLRB. This event comes as part of a campaign organized by the Ministry of Health targeting and in coordination with all ministries and government institutions. The purpose of the campaign is to conduct preliminary medical examination of all employees and workers in those institutions to enable an early detection of chronic diseases and educate employees on how to prevent or minimize such diseases by giving them health guidance and advice on how to change to a healthier life style. Any cases diagnosed during the check-ups will be referred to the concerned patient’s health center for further follow-up.
HE Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Director General of Resources and Information Systems, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Health’s team that carried out the medical examinations. He praised the campaign that aims to protect the safety and health of the employees of state institutions and agencies, stressing the importance of these periodic and regular tests, dissemination of the culture of early detection of diseases and how to take care of one’s health.
For her part, Dr. Amira Al Nooh, coordinator of the "Protect Your Heart" campaign, said that the campaign is part of the government's action program and aims to continuously monitor non-communicable diseases in line with the goals of the GCC plan to combat non-communicable diseases. The plan focuses on spreading awareness of the importance of early detection and controlling of non-communicable diseases through reducing the risk factors such as smoking, high blood pressure, physical inactivity and obesity. A government employee is an important link in the delivery of government services to the community and therefore we must make every effort to protect his health and safety through giving him guidance and counseling, which in the end aims to improve the health and safety of all citizens.
The campaign’s work runs through several stations or stages during the visit of the Health Ministry personnel to a government ministry/ institution. The first stage is the registration of the employee who fills in a form giving his personal information and medical history. The employee is then examined using modern instruments to check the bad and good cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, height and body mass index. The level of carbon monoxide inside the body is also checked by taking a sample of the breath. An employee who wants to quit smoking will be given the hotline number of the anti-smoking clinic (66399855) to take an appointment for follow-up. A number of specialized doctors then give medical advice to the employees.
