23 May, 2011 SLRB Workshop on Aerial Photography
The Survey and Land Registration Bureau (SLRB) organized a workshop on aerial photography by SLRB in 2010. The workshop was attended by ministerial, private sector and other concerned entities' representatives.Eng. Naji Sebt, head of survey activities, delivered a welcoming speech at the beginning of the workshopwhich aimed at inviting bodies concerned to review SLRB's plans on aerial photography over the year and years to come, and briefing them on potential help they can offer to the new aerial photography project
The workshop tackled issues including advanced technologies to be used in aerial photography to ensure high level accuracy of 10 cm and even 5 cm as in older parts of Manamah and Al Muharraq. For the first time digital cameras will be used to ensure swifter and more accurate output, compared to the previously used traditional cameras.
Aerial photography used to be conducted every five years or more. Yet, SLRB opted to change its respective plans when it comes to certain parts of Bahrain in order to have more focus and make full use of updating key digital map data of the Kingdom to cope with changes and speedy urbanization nationwide. In addition, SLRB aims at meeting the increasing demand on such topographic map and data users since engineers, map developers and researchers can no longer depend on old data and maps. Needless to say that it is the duty of SLRB to keep and archive of urbanization-based changes via such photographic activities.SLRB has more than 25,000 photos the oldest among which dates back to 1947. Now these are digitally preserved on topographic survey servers.
At the end participants were thanked for their attention and attendance. Actual participation in aerial survey was stressed via inviting the public and private sectors to have a hand therein with a view alleviating financial burdens for SLRB, and completion of the project in this year and the years to come. All participants will have up to date aerial photos to use for their respective activities.Continuity of such projects has been stressed for their positive outcomes.
